Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium will celebrate “Tiger Day” Saturday, the public meet-and-greet party for its newest Sumatran tiger, Bali.

The new tiger’s name was chosen through an online public survey. The results unveiled Thursday weren’t even close: 74 percent of respondents chose “Bali” over “George.”

Bali, an 11-year-old transplant from the San Francisco Zoo, joins his brother Java and potential mate Jaya in the zoo’s Asian Forest Sanctuary. All three will be on view – in separate enclosures – during tiger day. At 12:30 p.m., Bali will receive a frozen “meat-sicle” and other treats.

The zoo in Tacoma’s Point Defiance Park is open 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
