GLOCESTER, R.I. (AP) — An animal rescue expert has removed a pet mountain lion from a Rhode Island home for relocation to Florida.
Scott Lope, director of operations for the nonprofit Big Cat Rescue, removed the female mountain lion from the home in Glocester on Thursday morning.
Glocester animal control officer Michael Merchant says the mountain lion’s owner recently died and his widow is unable to continue caring for the animal, which weighs at least 200 pounds.
The mountain lion will be taken to an animal sanctuary.
