Mountain Lion struck by car in Monterey

A Mt. lion and a deer are reported to have struck a car on Highway 68 and Skyline Forest Drive in Monterey this morning, according to a CHP incident report.

The person who notified law enforcement, whose name was not given, said the deer bounced off of their vehicle and shattered the windshield and the Mt. lion also struck the vehicle.

Those involved in the incident were concerned that the Mt. lion had been injured, the incident report said.

California Department of Fish and Game Warden Jeff Heitzenrater said he had not been notified of the incident as of noon. If the Mt. lion was injured and near the roadway the agency would respond if notified, he said.

No further information is currently available from the CHP.
