CARSON CITY, Nev. — One Nevada man said he had to confront a dangerous cat that was threatening his son, and the consequences landed him in the hospital.
While watching television last week, David McClelland said he saw what looked like a 150-pound mountain lion just beyond his back yard.
As his teen son, Dustin, returned from a motorcycle ride, McClelland saw the animal’s demeanor change.
“He just had a death stare locked on my son,” he said. “I had to intercept that I had to get in between them.”
McClelland said he charged the lion, and ended up hospitalized with a concussion, bruises and scratches after the encounter.
“I just thank him so much for being there,” Dustin McClelland said. “It probably would have been very bad if he wasn’t there.”
The Nevada Division of Wildlife found evidence of the encounter, including a paw print and a circle of debris, which the lion may have used to mark its territory.
