New tiger arrives at Charles Paddock Zoo

A local zoo welcomes its newest member.

The Charles Paddock Zoo in Atascadero met Menderu, a Malayan male tiger, Wednesday.

Menderu was born back in April of last year at the San Diego Zoo.

In June, the Charles Paddock Zoo lost its female tiger during an exploratory operation.

Menderu, which means “roar” in Indonesian, was released from quarantine Thursday.

The zoo’s director, Alan Baker said, “He’s very curious, as you probably noticed. He’s kind of got that teenage gawkiness. His feet look a little too big for his body, but he’ll grow into that. And he’s a little over 100 pounds right now.”

The zoo says Menderu will probably weigh about 200 pounds when he is an adult.
