Nonnative bill slithers to okay

No senator "hissed" as the chamber unanimously passed a ban on importing nonnative species into the state — aimed at curbing the out-of-control Burmese python population. During the initial round of debate Thursday, sponsoring Sen. Eleanor Sobel gave all of her colleagues little snakes that expand in water. (No, the austere Senate was not above cracking several middle school jokes.) Sen. Alex Villalobos, who has pushed the Truth in Government Act, held up his snake Friday, informing the chamber that it didn't work as advertised. Of course, Sobel and all other lawmakers would be exempt from that bill.
