The Mobile Zoo USDA sues Mobile Zoo

UPDATE: 43 Violations in a Year and a Half at Mobile Zoo http://www.peta.org/blog/whistleblower-says-mobile-zoo-filthy-decaying-dump/

Nov 2016 USDA revokes license and closes Mobile Zoo.  http://wkrg.com/2016/11/17/usda-closes-mobile-zoo-for-good/

The Mobile Zoo, located in Wilmer, Alabama, has been closed by the United States Department of Agriculture.

In a press release, the USDA says numerous complaints from PETA lead to the zoo’s license being revoked after nearly two decades of being in violation of the Animal Welfare Act. In the most recent inspection report from September 2016, the inspector says there are not enough employees to keep the zoo compliant with their standards. According to the report, there is one full-time employee and one full-time volunteer.  The inspection notes several cages with dried feces, an accumulation of pests in the enclosures, unstable den enclosure conditions, and said some of the ice that had accumulated around the walls of the freezer “had red coloring that appeared to be blood”.

The license revocation means neither the zoo nor its owner will ever be able to legally  exhibit warm-blooded animals. It is up to the zoo as to what will happen to the animals now. The Administrative Law Judge is allowing a one-time exemption for the facility to sell the animals.  http://911animalabuse.com/mobile-zoo/

Big Cat Rescue offered to take the bobcats, but Mobile Zoo said they already had placement for them.

Lions, tiger, panther and more removed from Pahrump home

Officers say they have removed several exotic animals from a Nevada home, including three lions, a tiger and a panther, over concerns that the animals were not being cared for properly.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/2eOb4R5 ) that Nye County Sheriff’s Office says the animals were removed from a Pahrump home on Thursday.

Three African lions, a Bengal tiger, eight hybrid lynx cats, a black panther, a fennec fox and a hybrid caracal cat were taken from the property. According to a statement, officers discovered several cats and the fennec fox locked in bedrooms, where they had been urinating and defecating on the walls and carpet.

Officers have cited the owner for animal cruelty and are reviewing her permit to own the exotic creatures.

Jacki Freeman and Abby Hedengran held a permit allowing them to give care and hold custody of the animals found in the Black Rock Street home.  You might remember Abby Hedengran as the person who allowed a tiger to escape in California.  The tiger was on the run for more than a week and later gunned down.  This is just one more example of how state laws don’t work.  When they were run out of CA, they just set up shop in NV, and animals have continued to suffer.

Last lion tamer accused of abandoning big cats in trailer

He is said to be Britain’s last remaining lion tamer and comes from a family that has been training circus animals for more than 300 years. Thomas Chipperfield’s ancestor, James Chipperfield, performed with animals at the frost fair on the frozen Thames in 1684.

Now the circus company has been accused of neglecting its two lions and three tigers, which for the past year have been living at a site close to the M6 Toll in Staffordshire. Footage taken by animal welfare campaigners shows the big cats pacing up and down inside the converted lorry trailer where they are confined for most of the time. They claimed that the trailer was too small and on one day the animals were not let out at all.
