Keeper’s Log

Susann Mesna may not be a Keeper but she’s a keeper, for sure.  Thank you for this encouraging video of Chief Spotted Eye eating on his own today.  The vet is still considering Tuesday or Wednesday for his surgery.

King Tut the Savannah Cat and Anasazi Bobcat were chasing and playing with each other. Tut ran from end to end of his enclosure and ran right up his tree to show off to Anasazi. He did this about 4 times this morning.  Reported By: Brittany

Even when cats won’t eat on their own, they will often eat off a stick.  Susann Mesna captured TJ Tiger doing so from the explore.org/bigcatrescue LIVE web cam below:

chief spotted eye personI found the photo to be amusing.  We have 9 explore.org/bigcatrescue LIVE webcams on site, and probably a dozen or more Nest cameras.  I get these emails all day, when there is action on the camera, and I love that Nest calls the cats a “person”.

Call of the Wild Update

At the end of our guided tours we ask our guests to contact their member of congress by phone and ask them to support the Big Cat Public Safety Act.  Lauren reports, “Just wanted to let you know that today we officially hit 7000 calls, which is double those made last session :)” Lauren Buckingham, Research Director Big Cat Rescue

Can You Help Our 12 New Rescues on #GivingTuesday?

Big Cat Rescue is excited to again be participating in #GivingTuesday – Tuesday November 29, 2016!!

Please mark your calendar!

The timing could not be better this year as we have just rescued 12 exotic cats (5 tigers, 5 bobcats and 2 cougars) and really need your financial support to care for them.

It is Big Cat Rescue’s goal is to raise $58,000 during the 24 hours of #GivingTuesday. These much-needed funds will feed all 12 of our new mouths for an entire year! It is only because of the financial support we receive from generous donors like you that we can continue to say YES when exotic cats need to be rescued.  Find out more at https://givingtuesday.razoo.com/us/story/7nxt0f

Big Cat Action Alert

Big Cat Rescue is very concerned to learn that the city of Venice, Florida promoted and supported the exploitation of big cats from the notorious roadside zoo and circus called Big Cat Habitat at their November 26th Holiday parade. Big Cat Habitat is an unaccredited roadside facility that exploits their big cats in circus acts at both their Sarasota facility and around the country. They travel with many of their cats and force them to perform in circus shows at fairs and other venues for weeks on end. This is cruel, exploitative and a highly unnatural environment for these majestic cats.

Please send a polite email to officials at the city of Venice and ask them to stop promoting and supporting big cat exploitation. Ask them to never again allow big cats in their parades or at other city events!

Sample Letter wording:

I am very concerned and disappointed to learn that the city of Venice promoted and supported the exploitation of big cats from the notorious roadside zoo and circus called Big Cat Habitat during your November 26th, 2016 Holiday parade. The cats deserve better and I implore the city of Venice to do better.

Please stop promoting and supporting big cat exploitation. Never again allow big cats in your parades or other city events!
