The Tigers Next Door

Sharon Guynup's article, The Tigers Next Door, in the 12.2019 issue of National Geographic is so well researched, documented and written that Carole wants everyone to read it. The images by her partner, Steve Winter, show tigers in places where you might never expect them to be. We want you to have a hard copy of the magazine because it makes a compelling case for why we need the Big Cat Public Safety Act to pass. It might just become the best tool you can have to change hearts, minds and laws.

Coordinator Reports

Erin Carden – Chilly Monday today, warming up in the afternoon. Dylan and I organized the project trailer in the morning while everyone was out feeding. Megan Myers got a green level cleaning sign-off today, thanks to Cindy Kuharek!

Michael Heap and Melody Moore handled cleaning small cats. Dylan and I finished food prep before lunch and he got the dishes cleaned. BethAnn Bluder took care of the sickle cats and afternoon supplements, and we all did some operant. Megan and Candy Couser started the empty tiger row cage closest to Kali, it’s all been weeded.

Thanks to a new google 3D feature (and Dylan) I hung out with a tiger and penguin in food prep today too! ?

Thanks, everyone for a great Monday!

Karma Hurworth – Crazy day in the gift shop, but we got it done! Dennis Mitchell and Pam Rodriguez took care of the private tours. Pam even did an extra walk-in private! PM tours were taken care of by Denny and Melody Moore, with Jeanne Harvey and Kaitlin Wilson backing up.

Huge thank you to Diana Rao, Kaitlin, and Jeanne for answering the phone and greeting guests as they walked in. This is an incredible help to myself and Aleesa Salcido as Christmas orders are starting to come in and we are slammed with getting packages shipped out.

Welcome to new interns Kat Lightcap and Trevor McCabe!! We’ll be putting them to work in no time.

As usual, I couldn’t have done it without you! Thanks again!

Kristine’s Bobcat Rehab Overnight Report

MALACHITE, ASH and CINDER – The last couple of days, with the cooler weather, Ash and Cinder have been up wandering around a lot during the afternoon and at times overnight. During the afternoon, Cinder wandered around the front section for a while and Ash was in the middle section for a bit wandering around. Cinder paced the fence for a bit and sat by the Coolaroo under the tree to watch for the squirrels, then she walked around smelling everything.

After a while, as it was starting to get dark, she made her way to the middle section to find Ash, then after a bit, they both came back into the front to wander around some more. Cinder must have seen something out in the woods, because she paced the fence really fast for a bit, looking out that way.

After they looked for Malachite and watched for squirrels, they both went into the den and cuddled up together in their nice new, soft, fresh hay to take a long nap. Later Ash woke up and wandered around for a while, checking things out and watched for Malachite for a bit, then he went back into the den to check on Cinder and then he made his way into the middle section for a short time.

After a little while, he came back up front and went straight to the den to cuddle up with Cinder and take another catnap. They are so cute! A little later as it was getting light, they woke up and went to wandering around and pacing the fence. Ash made his way to the back section for a bit to wander around and check things out. As I write this, Cinder is lounging on the swinging shelf in the front and Ash is running back and forth along the fence in the back section. They are so precious!!! 🙂

Have a wonderful day!
Warm wishes, Kristine Metzner
