Lauren Buckingham’s Coordinator Report for Friday 11/24/2017

Great day today, we had a full Keeper Tour, full feeding tour, a Private Group Tour and 5 Day Tours this afternoon.  Pam, Des, Sue and Bethany stayed to help with the extra tours.

Rebecca, Alyssa and MC stayed to help feed picky cats and get chores done.

The roof of the Himalayan was cleaned off. There is a pile of brush that needs picking up this weekend.

Steve and Kaitlyn worked on that project so can show you where the pile is.

All of the remaining turkeys from Thanksgiving were cut up and added to diets for tomorrow. There is still some turkey in the cooler that can be fed out tomorrow with pm meds or as extras for skinny cats.

The Keeper Cafe was cleaned and organised.

A number of the operant/feeding sticks were reparied.

There is new protocol for feeding Will Bobcat.  Afton sent an email out so we are all on the same page on how to care for Will.

Can Big Cat Rescue count on YOU on #GivingTuesday to help feed our 60+ exotic cats?

#GivingTuesday is just a few days away — Tuesday, November 28th! — If you’d like to donate early, our donation page is up and we would greatly appreciate early donations to help feed our exotic cats!

By far the largest expense at our sanctuary is the cost for food for our exotic cats. Our annual food bill is $200,000 — that’s over $16,000 each month!

We feed our cats the highest quality, most nutritious meat we can buy in order to keep them healthy and happy. Our goal this year is to raise $64,000 on #GivingTuesday — this will feed every mouth at the sanctuary for FOUR MONTHS!

Many of our cats were rescued from horrible situations where they received poor or inadequate nutrition…if they were fed at all. Zeus and Keisha tigers came from a New York facility that stopped feeding them; they were emaciated and close to starvation when we arrived to rescue them. The “Gilligan’s Island” cats as we call them because they all have names from the television show — Gilligan, Skipper, Mary Ann, Ginger, Thurston Howell and Lovey — had been abandoned by their Kansas owner and left to starve to death before we stepped in and brought them to their forever home in Tampa. These are just some of the stories of our cats. Luckily they are now at Big Cat Rescue and, thanks to donors like you, will never know hunger again!

Not familiar with #GivingTuesday? It’s an annual campaign that takes place on the Tuesday following Black Friday and Cyber Monday each year and is designed to be a 24-hour global online giving event to kick off the season of giving by encouraging people to donate to their favorite non-profits.

It is only because of the financial support we receive from generous donors like you that we can continue to say YES when exotic cats need to be rescued. THANK YOU for helping us feed our precious cats.

Wishing you a peaceful and happy holiday season!

Facebook Group News

Group Admins have decided to narrow the focus of the group back to just BCR, BCR cats, and issues that BCR is passionate about.  This was in no way meant as a disrespect to other facilities.  The reason for the more narrow focus is so we can get to know our followers better and be more available for chatting with them one on one and be more available and more attentive to answering questions for newcomers.

The group has added 8 new Moderators.  In addition to moderating comments and being available to chate with newcomers (and old ‘timers’) each new moderator has a specific task they will do.  EXAMPLES:   Keepers Desmond Fowles and Brittany Mira will be posting fresh new photos.  Deb is doing morning and evening posts.  Marlene will be doing a special featured cat post every three days.  Matthew will keep us current on the funny holidays as well as posting big cat birthdays and keeping photos from Big Cat Updates copied into the group so one one misses them.  Susann is working on clipping sections out of Carole’s Walkabout videos and working on getting Explore’s videos added as well.  The rest of our wonderful Moderator Team is planning up a storm.

Congratulate our new Group Moderators
