Start a Facebook Fundraiser for Your Favorite Cat

Zimba Serval sure is a handsome boy! This holiday season, would you consider setting up a Facebook Fundraiser for your favorite act at Big Cat Rescue? It is very easy to do and can make a really big impact on what we are able to do for the cats here. https://www.facebook.com/fund/bigcatrescue/

Coordinator Reports

Lynda Licht – It was a post-Walkabout, time change & cooler temps kinda Sunday.

I picked up Dylan Lavigne at the Outback gate at 7 am. He has started training as a coordinator and shadowed me today. It’s fun to show him the ropes.

With a lot of our “super fans” still in town, we had command performances on the Feeding and Keeper tours by Matt Ruszczyk and Brittany Mira, respectively. We love making our supporters happy (Matt doesn’t usually come in on an NFL football Sunday). I saw a lot of smiling faces out there for sure.

After a long day helping Kathryn yesterday, Jennifer Ruszczyk was back to do AM meds, feeding and cleaning. She said on her way out that she had a “really fun day” chatting & spending time with the cats. Barbara Brooks also showed up early to do AM supplements, then get her last big cat feeding observation signoff (it’s time to actually FEED next weekend!).

Other feeders included Dylan, Cassidy Helber, Abbey, Brittany, Amanda Fenick and me. A little chill in the air always makes cats a little hungrier.

Cleaners included Jen, Abbey Rivett, Barbara, Amanda, Stefanie Kraus, Deidra Ritchie, Mai Richardson. Small cat cleaners admitted that cleaning may take longer because it’s too easy to fall under a Flint bobcat spell. He is just too cute.

We had an all hands on deck approach to food prep and clean up with Cassidy, Melody Moore, Amanda, Barbara, Stefanie, Dylan, and me all prepping diets and washing dishes. Abbey double-checked us.

Cassidy took her operant conditioning class so she’ll be looking for sign-offs. Cats will be happy to get treats. Michael Heap and Stefanie Kraus spent time taking photographs in the afternoon light. I can’t wait to see their gorgeous shots. Stefanie then came back to help with end of day chores. Becky Gagliardo came in at around 3 to do meds. Dylan went with her for a sign-off.

I ended the day doing PM supplements and a lot of laundry. We received a donation of many blankets yesterday so they are all washed and ready for use.

Thanks to all who came in to help today.

Karma Hurworth – Busy, busy day today, but our faithful gift shop team got it done! We started off today with full feeding and keeper tours led by Matt Ruszczyk and Brittany Mira. They were backed up by Melody Moore, Cassidy Helber, and Advocats. Adrian and Robin.

Lisa Spencer-Novak knocked out two sign-offs today. A solo for Melody, who’s almost finished, and a shared for Elissa Pally. Regina Turgeon, Marilyn Halpin, Amanda Wright, Abbey Rivett, and Cassidy rounded out the rest of the Day and Kids tours.

As usual, Edith Parker kept things running smoothly while I took care of rehab bobcat, Casper, and dealt with a crashed computer in the gift shop office. Shout out to Michael Heap for getting that fixed for me!

Thank you all so much for coming in after such a long day yesterday. The cats and I, as well as all of our guests, appreciate it!

Kristine’s Bobcat Rehab Overnight Report

MALACHITE, ASH and CINDER – In the afternoon, Cinder lounged on the tall platform for a bit, while Ash was in their secret napping spot. After a while Cinder got down and disappeared for a bit, then she came to the front section to wander around. She watched for Malachite on and off as she was roaming around, then she jumped up on the den to look around and lounge for a short time.

Then Momma Becky came to give them fresh water and food, so Cinder jumped down and disappeared. After Momma Becky left, she came back out and wandered around and checked things out. Ash finally joined her upfront, to wander around and he also watched for Malachite. Sometimes they will pace the fence together and walk side by side at the same pace, it’s so cute!

As it got dark, Ash made his way to the back section to get up on the tall platform to lounge and then nap. Not too long later, Cinder went to the back section to join Ash on the shelf. They cuddled up together and settled in for a nice long nap. They are so cute all cuddled up together!

Later they woke up and jumped down, then made their way to the front section, where they wandered around a bit, before going to their spot on the grass by the pipe. They curled up together there for another nap. They napped there for a while and then woke up and disappeared into the middle section for a bit.

Then they came zooming back into the front, chasing each other, lol. They played for a bit, chasing each other and batting at each other, then they disappeared again into the middle section. A bit later, they came back up front to pace the fence and lay by the water bowl to watch things out there. As I write this, Cinder is lounging on the swinging shelf in the front section and Ash is somewhere out of sight. They are too adorable!!! 🙂

***I saw sweet Malachite once, he was in his front section looking around. He stood on a log by the food training crate and looked out there at something for a bit, then he got up on top of the crate and just as quickly jumped down and disappeared. I managed to get a photo of part of him standing on the log, though. He’s so cute!!! 🙂

I wish everyone a very blessed day!
Warm wishes, Kristine Metzner
