Big Cat Updates

Join with us in remembering the 56 lions, tigers, cougars and other wild animals who lost their lives 6 years ago today in the Zanesville massacre. #BigCatAct and take action to prevent it from happening again at BigCatAct.com  Just by taking a few minutes to make a phone call and saying just a couple of sentences, you can help keep something like the Zanesville Massacre from happening again.  http://BigCatAct.com

Does this make you mad?

Does this make you mad? Then DO SOMETHING to help prevent it from happening again! YOU CAN STOP things like this.

Six years ago, 56 exotic animals were turned loose by the owner of a private menagerie located near a highway and a school in Zanesville, Ohio.

The local sheriff’s department had no choice but to kill 49 of those animals: 18 tigers, 9 male lions, 8 female lions, 6 black bears, 3 mountain lions,2 grizzly bears, 1 baboon and 2 wolves. An escaped monkey was likely eaten by a big cat. Only six animals (a grizzly bear, three leopards and two monkeys) were captured alive and taken to a zoo.

This tragedy – for the animals, the law enforcement officers, and the community – was preventable and will occur again unless private exotic animal ownership and breeding is banned across the country.

TAKE ACTION NOW that can actually make a difference!!

Please write to your US legislators in support of the Big Cat Public Safety Protection Act! #BigCatAct and Make the Call of the Wild at BigCatAct.com

Does this tragedy haunt you?  It haunts me!  For six years not a day goes by that those animals don’t cross my mind.  So if it breaks your heart and makes you mad, then, Do something!  TAKE ACTION THAT COUNTS!!  Take action that can actually make a difference.  Make the Call of the Wild at BigCatAct.com Don’t sit around thinking you don’t need to make the call because others will.  Guess what, enough others might not.  YOU NEED to do it!  Today!

I have heard, over an over, people focusing on law enforcement’s choice instead of the root cause of the incident.   Those animals should never have been in a private owner’s backyard to begin with.  If you want to get mad about what caused the tragic incident then get mad at the root cause and then DO SOMETHING positive to prevent it from happening again.  Whether law enforcement was right or wrong is NOT the debate for today, the 6th anniversary of such a tragic loss of life.

Instead, please recognize that the ROOT CAUSE of this tragic incident is those animals should never have been in a private owner’s backyard to begin with. If that root cause is stopped tragedies like this will not happen again. Don’t let those animals be forgotten. Honor them by giving a couple minutes of your time to make the Call of the Wild at BigCatAct.com it is free, quick, and easy.

Big cats do NOT belong in backyards.  49 precious lives were lost because a private owner turned them loose.  Let’s put an end to private ownership of these large predators.  THAT will prevent tragedies like this once and for all.

Big Cat Updates

The weather has been cooler so the cats are friskier, including Hoover who has been caught on video RUNNING!!

Amanda is not reunited with Andre and Arthur yet but she is next door to them.  As soon as all her meds are finished they will be reunited.

Cameron and Zabu are reunited.  Cameron’s biopsy came back and the mass removed from his ear was not cancer.

WOOHOO!!  Jamie and Victor spent about a $1,000 and bought about $22,000 worth of stuff which included a lot of stuff for the cat hospital  We are sooooo excited.

Three more days to the opening of the new gift shop.

Carole ordered a new stabilizer, but then got her current one working.  That means, soon Afton will be using a stabilizer, too.

Tonga gained too much weight so he is not on the evening snack list for a while.

Zucari is having a blast on FunCation.

Zimba is in JoJo’s set of cages which is across the tour path from FunCation.  Those two funny boys have been racing back and forth chasing each other.

CAMBU STORY:  Yesterday, Cameron wanted Zabu to get up and play.  She wanted to take a nap.  So he actually put his head under hers and picked her head up.  That succeeded in getting her to get.  Much to Cameron’s disappointment though, she walked away from him and laid back down to finish her nap.  He is so needy, he wants to be right next to her all the time.  She just wants to complete one whole nap without him waking her up.

Starting the day with 2540 calls

Starting the day with 2540 calls to congress made on the Big Cat Public Safety Act #BigCatAct / BigCatAct.com

Add YOUR name to the list of people who care enough to make a 3 minute call to protect big cats by going to BigCatAct.com and making the Call of the Wild. Do it to honor the 56 lions, tigers, bears, cougars, wolves and other wild animals who lost their lives, six years ago today, when they were “set free” by Terry Thompson in Zanesville, Ohio.

3 maybe 4 more Republicans have agreed to sign on to The Big Cat & Public Safety Act.   That makes, I think, over 90 members of the House supporting H.R. 1818, The Big Cat Public Safety Act.

Getting more Republicans to Co-sponsor H.R. 1818 is really important because Republicans control Congress.  PLEASE make the Call of the Wild, every week.  YOUR CALLS are Making A Difference!!

Evening snacks and meds with Carole & Afton

Cats:  Max and MaryAnn, Tonga, Sheena, Kricket, Frosty, Zimba, Sassy Cougar, Sundari, Mickey, Reise, Des, Hoover Running, Gabrielle, Keisha, Cameron, Zabu, Amanda, and Zeus

Sassy Cougar is so funny, when she takes a bite she likes to hold it in her mouth for a while before chewing and swallowing.  Keepers patiently wait.  Sassy is very old and a little bit over weight.  She recently had dental work so if still on meds.  She does not like dirt on her food.  If her food drops in the dirt, keepers have to wash it off.
