Big Cat Updates

Keeper Kathryn Stapleton’s Coordinator Report for 10/23/2017

We had a good number of volunteers today. 3 full education tours, thanks to the tour guides and backups that came in so the keepers could get cleaning done!!

We finished Zucari’s cage for him to come home on Thursday. Started and made good headway on Skipper and Gilligan, till rain in the afternoon slowed us down.

Picky cats ate well today, even Joseph came out in the wet to eat dinner!

Getting ready for the Walkabout so anything on the tour path you can tidy up please do!

That’s it for me!

Kathryn

Cooper is locked in the small section while keepers do some work on the other sections.

Tiger + Pumpkin = Halloween Fun!! Priya Tiger’s Pumpkin Adventure

CORRECTION:   Zucari is on FunCation not Max and MaryAnn.  In yesterday’s update I (LaWanna) typed Max and MaryAnn because a keeper had just sent me photos of them on FunCation they had taken a couple weeks earlier.  Those two funny bobcats were on my mind and I typed Max and MaryAnn instead of Zucari.  LOL, quite a few of you caught my error!!  Sorry about the confusion that caused yesterday.  I LOVE that so many of you contacted me to let me know I had goofed.  You guys are GREAT!!!  It is so refreshing to know you all care so much for these cats that you stay up on what is going on with them.  OH, BY THE WAY, Zucari is really have a blast on FunCation!

 Sassy Cougar

Appx. DOB 1/1/1999

Arrived:  10/17/2016:  Sassy Cougar and 5 other cats arrived at Big Cat Rescue on Oct. 17, 2016 from Spirit of the Hills. Find out more about the rescue here: http://bigcatrescue.org/spirit-of-the-hills/  Sassy Cougar was at least 17 when she arrived here. She is already spayed and had already had the tips of her ears frozen off.

Died Oct. 24, 2017:  This morning Sassy Cougar was found to have passed away, peacefully, in her sleep.  She was at least 18 years old.

Read her story and leave tributes for her at: http://bigcatrescue.org/sassy-cougar/

NOTE:  We have added 27 photos of Sassy at http://bigcatrescue.org/sassy-cougar/ and as requested by viewers, about 25 photos have been added to Mickey’s page as well. http://bigcatrescue.org/mickey/

As you can imagine the keepers and staff are really hurting right now.  Please know that your kind words of support and encouragement are deeply appreciated.  Everyone has put on their brave faces and are continuing to move forward caring for the cats they love so dearly, greeting guests, teaching about the cats and cat issues, etc.  When someone breaks into tears they quickly duck out of sight, and someone jumps in to take their spot so as not to dampen guests’ experience coming to see the cats on the educational tours.  Again, THANK YOU for the kind words and encouragement.  The whole team does appreciate it.
