Big Cat Fact – Leopard

Leopards are capable of running just under 40 miles per hour for brief periods.  Leopards can leap more than 20 feet horizontally, and 10 feet vertically.  Leopards are also very adept swimmers.

Letter To Management

October 25, 2017

Dear Sir/Madam:

Please ignore any letters you may get from our neighbor, Good King Grump a/k/a Joseph Lion. He calls us unsophisticated, and then poses for Explore pictures like the one below. He’s just got a chip on his shoulder because Amanda pays more attention to Zeus than him.

Anyway, back to the reason for this letter. We want to make it perfectly clear that we would be more than happy to be in the Vacation Rotation area for the Walkabout. You can count on us to be on our best behavior. As a matter of fact, Amanda’s Midnight Crooners would be glad to provide background music at no cost.

However, consider this: If THREE tigers are adorable, imagine what a crowd SIX tigers would draw! We thought it would be a great idea if you allowed Kali, Keisha and Priya to join us in the VR. Not because we think they are cute and flirty or anything; just as an added attraction for the visitors, of course. And Amanda thought she might like to invite Andy and Seth – so EIGHT tigers! Just think of the ooh’s and aah’s from the crowd!

We think this is a stupendous idea.

Thank you for your consideration of our request.

Sincerely,

Arthur, Andre and Amanda Tiger

PS – Unlike Grumpy Gus, we do not need vanilla ice cream or turkey legs to entice us through the tunnel …

 Honoring Mickey

Dear Big Cat Rescue,

I am so devastated to hear of the passing of sweet Mickey cougar. I saw the post on your Instagram page and just cried. I wanted to write to you and share with you that Mickey indirectly changed the course of my life.

Three years ago, when you uploaded the video “Mickey Cougar Gets Rescued” to your YouTube account, I was in college. I was planning on entering The Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics national essay contest. I was searching for an ethical topic to write about. I considered many issues, but I thought to myself, ‘Which ethical topic is more overlooked than any other?’ The answer: animal welfare. Around that time, I stumbled across Big Cat Rescue and I watched the very first video of Mickey’s rescue. It broke me down to tears. I knew immediately that I had to write about this. Seeing his condition haunted me.

I couldn’t just stop at the abuse of exotic animals, but the abuse of all animals. I wrote about factory-farmed animals, animals in research, animals used for entertainment, clothes, breeding, all of it! By the time I finished the essay I had gone completely vegan. My essay ended up in the semi-final round. I have become an adamant animal activist and I refer everyone to Big Cat Rescue. You are the standard by which all other sanctuaries are measured. I cannot express to you the immeasurable love and appreciation I have for your facility. Your education and outreach has impacted me in a way I’ve never experienced. And it all started with Mickey cougar. He truly started it all for me.

Thank you so much, Big Cat Rescue. You are incredible and you have changed my life.
