Alexa Flash New Briefing – Saying Goodbye to our Precious Babycakes
Babycakes the African Genet has been euthanized. Most of the literature says genets live from 7-9 years, and some say as long as 13. Babycakes arrived here 18 years ago and he was probably about five years old on arrival. He’s been living in staff offices because he couldn’t regulate his body temperature anymore and he’s been declining for a while, but yesterday took a turn for the worse, that left us knowing there was only one, last kind thing we could do for him. Coordinator Report – Lynda Licht
Everyone was wearing their hoodies and long shirts as it was in the 50’s this morning. We all loved the cooler weather and so did the cats. Sure did make them hungrier. Even Hoover chased me down mid-morning for more.
We had an ROTC workgroup here that weed-whacked and cleaned up the rehab area with help of interns Dylan and Mazz.
Reise went back outside midday and she is loving it. Mary J. cleaned the transport cage and Tanya deep cleaned the outside recovery cage.
Tanya and partner trainee Mehul cleaned the tour path in the corner near Priya, Kali, and Cougar Cubs.
After cleaning, Jen R. went around with limb loppers and cut those pesky low lying little limbs that grow out of the trees that are Carole’s #2 pet peeve. She also pulled a bunch of burr plants and vines.
Alec, Tanya, Mehul, and I helped Carole clean up the party house and take down all the Halloween party decorations. There are leftovers and snacks in the Keeper Cafe.
Mazz passed her map test – congrats!
Sadly, we helped Babycakes pass over today. He lived a phenomenally long life and was very very loved.

Rich always has the right parts. He changed out battery cables in two golf carts and put this Magical little piece into a guest golf cart to get them running again.
Foster Kittens Get Pumpkins – 360 VR
Big Cat Rescue has been a foster partner, of the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, since 2013. To date, we have helped over 700 kittens. The kittens are raised by our interns until they are old enough to be spayed/neutered and then go back to the Humane Society to find their furr-ever homes.
Annually, in October, we give our Big Cat Residents pumpkins for their Halloween enrichment. This year we decided to give them to the foster kittens too….take a look at their reactions!
