Coordinator Report – Lynda Licht
A productive yet peaceful Sunday. The fasting day before Panacur (intestinal dewormer) always feels a little weird because we don’t feed and get cleaning done so quickly. It did give all the volunteers a chance to go out and do operant training with their cats this morning, so that was nice.
Interns Mike and Alec led a workgroup from Allstate and they cleaned Breezy’s two bubbles near the tour path top to bottom. They got done so quickly, they then tackled another enclosure. Both really look great.
Volunteers Des and Candice stayed after cleaning for a while to work on a project down by the rehabs. With the help of interns Abbey, Mazz, and Mike they cut back the overgrowth that was encroaching on the front of the rehab enclosures. We regained several feet of clearance near those cages.
Jen R. resumed her meds route this morning and was happy she had 100% success. Then she led the keeper tour with Abbey along for a sign-off.
Interns Tanya, Dyla, and Austin prepared the special diets needed for thePanacurr feed tomorrow. All done and meat cleaned up before handling kids tours. Brittany helped out by doing all the dishes after she was done cleaning. Kathryn made a modified pull list of the food still needed and Dylan showed me where everything is kept in the freezers.
Hoover is doing much better with coming over to eat. He came running over for both Jen this morning and Kathryn this afternoon.
Reise seems to have settled into her new enclosure as she’s out more – even caught her watching the tour path from the top of her den.
It was intern Kerry’s last day but she came in this morning to give one last tour before saying goodbye to everyone.
Action Alert
Big Cat Rescue is asking for your help to spread the word, sign the petition below and SHARE this post in order to raise awareness of the plight of wild tiger Avni!
A wild tigress in India named Avni, her two young cubs and her mate are in grave danger. Avni (also known as T1) is a young tigress who lives in the western forests of India with her two 9-month-old cubs and her mate T2. She lives in an area where illegal cattle grazing and human encroachment of the forest land are rampant.
The government is alleging that 13 people found dead in the forest in the last 2 years have died from attacks by Avni, even though DNA reports show signs of a tiger attack in only one of the cases. Avni has been labeled a “man-eater” or “marked tiger” while there is no solid proof or evidence of her killing those humans.
We’ve been told courts in India have given the directive to state forest officials to eliminate her. A notorious hunter has been hired by the state to hunt her down.
