Zabu has been started on anti-biotics for her cough because she probably got water in her lungs and we do not want it to turn into pneumonia.

Keeper Lynda Licht’s Coordinator Report for Sunda, October 8, 2017

Wow what a day. It was the second day of the Peter Emily Foundation dental procedures. First up Gabby, then Priya and finally Amanda. The BCR staff and vet teams worked with precision to get all those done before 5 pm.

Priya woke up pretty quickly while Gabby took a little longer.

Amanda due to her age took the longest to wake up fully. Therefore, she will spend the night in the transport attached to her enclosure – the bubble closest to Cam and Bu’s regular enclosure. Otherwise, by the end of the day, everyone went back in their cages, including Sassy Cougar and Zabu who spent last night in/near the recovery hospital.

Priya and Gabby have limited access to one bubble while they still wake up fully and no access to pools yet. Seth has full access.

While all this was going on, the volunteers and interns tackled all the empty enclosures. First we moved the silver frame that was the old cleaning bucket shed down by the machinery building. Then we finished Sassy’s cage. Then the work group arrived and they started on Gabby’s after she was removed. They worked really hard as well as two red shirt trainees who came just for projects. After Priya was taken out, some of them jumped over there for a quick weed-whack and cleanup. The cages were ready by the time we returned the cats. Also, the two new transports are clean and back in front of hospital. The cages that Sassy was in are clean too and drying on the cleaning slab.

Tomorrow both hospitals will need a thorough top to bottom clean.

Cam was a little over anxious to greet Zabu upon her return, so we had some volunteers watching for a while. By the end of the day they seemed okay and they were let out into the open air section. Unfortunately she walked straight to the pond and got in. She struggled and was in distress. Everyone jumped into emergency mode and staff and keepers were all doing what they needed to to help. Dr J ended up darting Cameron so Jamie and Kathryn could go into vacation in the tundra. SO, while Cam was out he got an overall exam and Dr J decided to remove a small mass in his ear. This was done inside the recovery hospital – so yet another unplanned procedure. He is currently in the recovery transport attached to the roof section of their regular enclosure. Zabu was also moved over there. They are SEPARATED and need to remain that way until Kathryn decides it’s time to open them up. Therefore, vacation is empty.

I must say this was a tough day but it also showed just how well the BCR team works together to do whatever we need for the cats. It fills me with such pride to be part of this group.

That’s it. We are all spent and ready to crash at home.

Lynda

Keeper Becky Gagliardo:  Here is a pic of Will taken last night lounging on his coolaroo.

For those who do not know Will Bobcat.  He came here with neurological issues as well has some ongoing health issues.  Will is pretty shy and normally prefers to stay hidden.  But, serious, not even elusive Will can resist coming out for a Cooleroo hangout.

 Honey’s Monday Gift Shop Report

Hi Everyone,

In the breakroom are a few boxes for you guys to work on. Please label the cub cards from the snow leopard trust and the hats in the boxes below. The box on the bottom is from staples all but one item is for the gift shop so please distribute to the proper places. The toner is for Gale. Please put it in her box and Michael will take it to her house since he is cat sitting for her.

Please refill the bin under the cash box with ponchos. They are in the storage shed.

Please restock the pink/gray hats they are also in the storage shed.

In the mailroom there is a box full of bracelets that need to be labeled and then find a basket to put them out on display in.

Please double check out toilet paper supply for the gift shop. If I need to order it please put it on the supplies needed chart.

Karma, Chad will be by to pick up the box of raincoats to be printed for the volunteers. Please show him mine on the back of the mail room door for reference. Thanks

The orders came in well over the weekend so they may continue to be busy. I think there are boxes that will fit the catopoly games for shipping.

Please move the mailing boxes out of the partner workroom in the new gift shop and put them into my new office.

Thanks so much for all of your hard work. Have a great couple of days.
