MYSORE: A tiger was found dead at Nagarhole national park on Monday. This is second tiger death reported from the region this month and fifth recently.

While the post mortem on Tuesday will locate the exact cause of the death of the 10-year-old tiger, preliminary investigations by the officials attached to Project Tiger have indicated it could have died due to old age. They are pointing out to its claws which are intact. What has led to suspicion is its age. Generally tigers live 14 years in the wild.

The tiger’s death was reported by some villagers who visited the site near Maleyur in D B Kuppe forest range. Significantly, a tigress was found dead in the vicinity some two weeks back. Project Tiger field director B J Hosmath visited the spot.
