Pair of white tigers reach Van Vihar

Bhopal, Apr 22 (PTI) The Van Vihar National Park here today received two new inmates, a pair of white tigers from Bhubaneshwar’s Nandan Kanan Zoo which were translocated to revive its tiger population.

“The pair of tigers — a male aged 10 years and a 9-year-old female –reached our Park by road,”Van Vihar Director S S Rajput told PTI.

The average age of the white tiger is about 14 years, Rajput said adding the last white tigress at the Van Vihar, Rini, had died on September 6, 2008.

The Van Vihar had some six white tigers but they died due to different ailments, officials said.

The pair has been translocated by Madhya Pradesh Forest officials to revive the tiger population in Van Vihar, they added.
