Pedigree Dog Food Limited Recall
Mars Petcare issued a limited recall of Pedigree dog food. The recall is limited to Southern California and Las Vegas, NV. A “component” of the food that tested positive for Salmonella contamination “was inadvertently shipped to our Tracy, California facility and used in the production of 100 bags of PEDIGREE(R) Complete Nutrition Small Crunchy Bites with best buy dates of 07/2009.”
If you or any pet owners you know that live in the recall area who feed Pedigree dog food, please alert them. Here is the link to the press release of the recall: http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/mars-petcare-us-voluntarily-issues/story.aspx?guid=%7B32A1D75C-B54D-473E-A728-20CE0974B68F%7D&dist=hppr
This particular ‘limited recall’ happened with similar circumstances as a pet food recall in December 2005. Diamond pet foods had all the safety procedures in place, yet somehow failed to follow them; the result caused the death of up to 100 dogs.
With all the problems the pet food industry has experienced over the last several years, AAFCO still only ‘recommends’ safety procedures for pet food manufacturers to follow. Our pets deserve better. Pet Owners deserve better. Safety protocol for the manufacturing of pet food should be uniform and should be mandated.
I wish there was news to tell you that the FDA or AAFCO is considering this – but that’s not the case. Maybe someday.
Do you believe there is a Rainbow Bridge?
It’s been over a year since I lost my dog Cowboy – the pain is still very sharp. A recent article on TheState.com shares some pet owner beliefs – and religious viewpoints on whether pets go to heaven. As for me…I have no doubt that the day I stop breathing (and stop giving AAFCO and the FDA grief), I will be reunited with Cowboy and all of my ‘critters’. It’s an interesting article, here’s the link: http://www.thestate.com/local/story/484574.html
So happy to meet some of you at the Orlando Pampered Pet Expo! Thanks again to the Expo and The Pet Pantry for having me.

Help Big Cat Rescue and learn the Truth about Pet Food! Nutrition is one of the most neglected areas of pet care. Modern veterinary science tells us that the average size dog (30 pounds) should have a life span of 25 years and the average size cat should have a life span of 30 years. Sadly, we lose them far earlier. Genetics, environment, and nutrition – or lack of nutrition – all plays a role in the life expectancy of your pet. Improve your pet’s diet – improve their health and extend their life span.
Pet Food meat ingredients come from two VERY different categories or classifications…Pet grade/quality ingredients (which can be diseased or sick animals or animal parts rejected for use in human food) or Human grade/quality ingredients.
Do you know which your pet is eating?
Pet foods and Treats can legally contain chemical preservatives linked to cancer and tumors.
