A leopard that had fallen into a well in an Indian village has been rescued by forest officials.
Local farmers in India’s western Gujurat state, found the leopard struggling to stay afloat, when they came to draw water from the well.
‘The leopard must have been in search of prey in the night when he fell into the well. We informed the forest department and soon some officials arrived to rescue the leopard. They lifted him up from the well using ropes, placed him in a cage and took him away to safety,’ Himmat Jhala, a farmer said.
The half-submerged leopard was hoisted up using ropes and placed into a cage to be taken to an animal centre at Sasan, a nearby town.
