Protest against Project Tiger

Udhagamandalam: More than 200 workers belonging to various left parties and its affiliated organisations, were arrested in different places in Nilgiris district, when they attempted to stage picketing against the implementation of Project Tiger in Mudumalai area,police said.

The 210 workers from CPIM, DYFI and AIDWA, raised slogans against the Project, claiming that it would affect the locals, particularly the farmers and agriculture land.

The protesters in Gudalur, Pandalur and Devala, demanded cancellation of Tamil Nadu Government orders, 50 and 1168, with regard to seeking vacating of encroached land and provide pattas to landless, police said.

Traffic was disrupted on Ooty-Mysore and Ooty-Kozhikode Road, during the protest.
