The following story shows the utter lack of understanding that this reporter had in his/her story. They didn’t sign a name to it, or we would have set them straight. There is a comment form on their site though, where you can let them know that:
1. This is not a pure bred tiger, as all white tigers are both inbred and cross bred between Siberian and Bengal tigers.
2. Real sanctuaries do not trade or breed their animals.
3. Only animal exploiters breed white tigers and pull the cubs from their mothers.
Here is the sordid story:
MOUNT VERNON, Maine—A baby white Siberian tiger has a new home at an animal sanctuary in Mount Vernon, Maine.
The tiger Makeena was donated to the D.E.W. Animal Kingdom and Sanctuary by tiger breeders in the southeastern United States. The cub has been in Mount Vernon for about a week now.
The cub is being fed formula and its handlers say they plan on putting her on a meat diet in a few weeks.
Visitors can see Makeena several times a day.
WCSH-TV says officials at the sanctuary say they hope to get Makeena to breed with another tiger they have.
