VLADIVOSTOK, November 13, vladivostoktimes.com The RF Ministry of Natural Resources supports the campaign that is arranged within the World Wildlife Fund (WWF of Russia); the objective of the campaign is to draw the public attention to the preservation of the Amur tiger.

Igor MAIDANOV, the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, took part in the press conference on the occasion of the campaign launching that was held on November 11; the press service of the RF Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment informs.

Igor CHESTIN, the Director of WWF of Russia, Andrei KUSHLIN, the coordinator of tiger initiative of the World Bank and the representatives of business and culture circles also attended the press conference.

In his address Mr. MAIDANOV pointed out that in the last 3 years four specially protected natural zones have been established to preserve the tiger population; they are the national parks “Tiger’s Call,” “Udege Legend,” “Anuiskiy” and “Leopardoviy,” the national wildlife preserve. The total area of these specially protected natural zones increased in size by about 670 thousand hectares.

He also mentioned that the RF Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment gives particular attention to the arranging and hosting of the International Summit in Vladivostok; the summit is to be held in September of 2010 and covers the issue of preservation of the tiger population on Earth.

Let us remind you that the range of tiger population is spread through 14 countries including India, Indonesia, China and Russia. In the last century its population decreased from 100 thousand tigers to 3.5 thousand animal units. The tiger population that inhabits in Russia comes to over 450 adult animals.
