CHANDRAPUR: A farmer from village Bhamdeli was mauled by a leopard on his farm on the outskirts of Moharli forest range in the wee hours of Sunday. Forest officials have sounded an alert in the nearby village and asked farmers to take necessary precautions while on night vigil to protect crops.
Farmer Amol Nannaware (32) was guarding his crops from wild boar during the night from a machan built on the farm. In the wee hours of the night, the dog tethered to the machan become restless, apparently after smelling the presence of a leopard in the vicinity. The beast had crept close to the machan to prey on the dog. Nannaware sensed the restlessness of the dog and stepped down to release the dog.
The leopard too sprinted after the dog and as Nannaware tried to scare it away, the beast turned upon him. However, the farmer luckily escaped with minor injuries as the leopard was more focused on pursuing the dog.
