PITTSBORO The Carnivore Preservation Trust has changed its name to Carolina Tiger Rescue to reflect its focus on providing lifelong homes to surrendered and confiscated tigers and other wild cats.

“Carnivore Preservation Trust was founded 28 years ago to advance the preservation of endangered and threatened animals,” director Pam Fulk said Monday. “Over the last decade, we’ve shifted our focus to rescue and conservation education.

“We felt it was time that the name represented who we are today.”

The legal name, Carnivore Preservation Inc., and tax identification number will not change.

The organization recently learned it is getting three estate gifts that will help hire a full-time development director this fall and a full-time education director in the spring. The sanctuary aims to develop an endowment in 2010.

Carolina Tiger Rescue is a 55-acre sanctuary just east of Pittsboro. It has more than 75 animals, including tigers, ocelots and binturongs, also called Asian Bearcats. For information, go to www.carolinatigerrescue.org
