Important Point of Clarification

Big Cat Rescue was contacted last night by a reporter at a Utah FOX television affiliate requesting our opinion of a brief video of a lion making noises while laying in his dismal cement-floored cage at the notorious roadside zoo in Utah called Lagoon.

We reviewed the video and told the reporter the lion appeared to be roaring. We also told him that Lagoon is a roadside zoo and lions should not be forced to live in barren, cement-floored cages. We did not say the lion appeared to be hacking up a hairball.

Below is our 911animalabuse.com page about Lagoon.

Big Cat Rescue does not and did not condone the treatment of big cats at Lagoon.

Coordinator Report – Sue Messineo

It was a fantastic Friday! Quite warm but had a great group of volunteers and interns. Fred coordinated with me today and did a great job. It was so nice to see Mary Jerome back! A big Thank you to Honey for doing the keeper tour and making cicles. Abby, Mazz, Karla, Mary, Cassidy, Sue R, Marylou, Barbie, and Sharon fed and cleaned. Mazz did food prep before lunch. Boy, are we going to miss Mazz!!!

Videos of the Day

Rescuers checking in from the road with 3 bobcats and a Savannah cat! Rescue team flew to California and rented a van to bring 4 rescued exotic cats back to Florida. Learn more & see photos at http://bigcatrescue.org/wildlife-waystation/

Keeper Susan Reed got a cute video clip of Jinx, the black leopard, playing with his little red ball and doing a little gardening while she was doing her normal keeper duties. Jinx Black Leopard playing and doing a little gardening this morning. What a silly and happy boy! Did you know you can sponsor Jinx for as little as $25 a year and get a really cool sponsor kit in the mail that includes a beautiful 8×10 frameable photograph? Your sponsorships help us provide the best care possible for these majestic cats. https://big-cat-rescue.myshopify.com/collections/sponsor-a-cat

Flint the baby bobcat that is recovering from a broken neck is getting bigger and stronger every day. He no longer has to spend all his time in small recovery cages but gets lots of playtime in his recovery room, as well as a few hours outside, to play in the sunshine.

As you may have heard, recently Max and MaryAnn Bobcats were moved to a new enclosure. It is the suite of cages that used to belong to the “The Cubs,” cougar siblings Ares, Orion, and Artemis. The enclosure is a series of cages/bubbles connected by doors and tunnels. All together it is about as long as a football field. In this old video from 2014, you see a PORTION of the enclosure as Ares Cougar chases a golf cart. Even in this video you seeing only a part of the enclosure. Max and MaryAnn are having a blast checking out and marking all their new space.

Kristine’s Bobcat Rehab Overnight Kitten Report

FLINT – Precious Flint napped in the afternoon and then woke up and played into the late afternoon. He played with his stuffie running around with it and he loves to take it up with him on the camera box and play, lol. He played in his enrichment box, he had it upside down and sat it in looking around. So cute!

He was playing when Aleesa came in to take him to have his Bemer treatment and clean his room. After she brought him back, he wandered around, as usual, looking at everything, then he found his food bowl and ate some dinner.

After he ate, he started in playing like mad, running around the room, attacking his palm tree and other scratching posts, knocking them down, lol. Then he attacked his stuffie and carried it around the room, stopping to bat it around. Today he has all of his things pushed to the right side of his room, usually, they are pushed to the left back side, lol.

He played with his blanket rolling around and played with his stuffie on his blanket. He got up on the top of the camera box a lot, laying up there bathing or something, because the camera was rocking a bit, but still stayed in place with a great view. Silly boy! He played until he wore himself out and then he laid down by his palm tree and his stuffie to nap.

A while later he woke up for a short time and moved to the back right corner where his hut was and cuddled up for a long nap. Later overnight, he woke up and played for a while. He played with his triangle scratcher, laying over the top of it and he played with the other two scratching post a bit too. Then he went back to his hut, got all cozy and took another nap.

Later just before it got light, he woke up and played. He played a lot in the back of his room and out of sight overnight, so I couldn’t get very many photos. As I write this, he is still playing up a storm with his stuffie. Love him so much! 🙂

ASH and CINDER – Ash and Cinder were nowhere to be seen during the afternoon. In the late afternoon, they finally came up front to wander around a bit and check things out. They went back and forth between the middle and front section, but they did spend some time up front.

Cinder got up on the hanging shelf to lounge for a bit, then she jumped on top of the den and bathed. After a bit, Ash jumped up there with her for a few minutes, then was back down wandering around. A short time later Cinder joined him.

As the sun was setting they sat in the front right side and watched out towards the woods and looked up in the tree for the squirrel. They wandered around for a while more and then they disappeared into the middle section to their secret napping spot.

Later overnight, they came back up front and wandered around for a short time, then they got up on the hanging shelf to lounge for a bit. Then they disappeared again into the middle section. A while later they came back up front to wander around and sit on the Coolaroo to look for Malachite. Cinder also paced the fence. As I write this, they are still wandering around the front section. Pacing and looking for Malachite. Love them! 🙂
