Big Cat Updates
Divinity is eating fish, sardines and ground turkey. Will is doing about the same.
Hurricane Irma has us worried. We have added some items to our Amazon Wishlist, if you would like to help. The best way you can help the cats is to sign up for Amazon Smile and choose Big Cat Rescue as your charity. Then, when you go to Amazon through your Smile account, everything is the same on Amazon but a portion of each purchase you make goes to the cats. Here is the link: https://smile.amazon.com/ch/59-3330495
After you sign up at Smile.Amazon, one really easy way to purchase items we need is to visit our Amazon Wish List where you can purchase right there and have the items shipped to us.
Keeper Lauren’s Coordinator Report for September 9/4/2017
We had a great day today, lots of volunteers came in to help out!
Max and Maryann were shifted over, so the other side of their enclosure was worked on. The tree by their platform was trimmed, weeds pulled and the section weed wacked and raked.
Divinity ate well today. She LOVES fish…especially tuna and sardines.
We had alot of guests on the PM tour, the interns all went out, which was great to see and great for the cats. Rebecca, Alyssa and MC stayed to help finish up the project
Ivermectin was a success, everyone ate. The back route tigers will be getting theirs tomorrow.
Operant sign offs were done for those who needed them.

You know how annoying mosquitoes are and if you watch our Facebook LIVE walkabouts, you know that a lot of the big cats suffer seasonal allergies due to mosquito bites. Huge shout out to Melanie D. who recommended Mosquito Fish to put a permanent end to the suffering of the cats and their keepers. Hillsborough County has a program for homeowners where they give away a small number of fish, but when I called and explained that we are dealing with an 18 acre lake, a pond in Vacation Rotation and nearby swamps, they said I needed to go straight to the farmer they get theirs from.
Carole contacted him and he didn’t know how many fish it would take to make a difference, but said he would sell them to Big Cat Rescue for .25 each and they come in bags of 250. He said they breed fast and don’t die in the winter, so even if it does’t make a huge impact this summer, it could be a lasting solution to protect the cats and their keepers. ALL OF YOU QUICKLY RAISED $805 which purr-chased 3,200 fish for eating mosquito larvae at Big Cat Rescue. Carole has now picked up the fish and they have been released into the Vacation Rotation pond & Tiger Lake.

Evening Big Cat Walkabout with Carole & Keeper Afton. See the cats get snacks and meds. Help with our market survey about litter boxes that do or don’t work for you at http://bigcatrescue.org/september-4-2017/
Carole is doing some market research on litter boxes to design a solution that will help other pet owners keep their cats; rather than give them up for poor litter box habits. YOU can help by giving us some info on what works for you (and what hasn’t too). The biggest factor in whether cats will use a box or not is size, so I’d like to know 1. width, length and side heights that work (and those that didn’t) 2. how many cats? 3. what kind of litter 4. hooded or not 5. secret hiding spot for box, or out in the open 6. is the box plastic or disposable 7. anything else that might help.
Get outdoors and take a play break with the big cats. Watch more at http://explore.org/bigcatrescue
Afternoon Big Cat Walkabout
The work YOU helped us fund on International Tiger Day went to putting fences around wells like these so that the cats don’t fall in.
