Big Cat Updates

Art Deco Leopard Tee ShirtKathyrn Stapleton’s coordinator report for Wednesday 9/6/2017

We were pretty lean on volunteers today, but we got a lot done.

Helped tree guys drag cut up trees and branches out of Seth and Andy.  They now have access to their full enclosure and got some new toys!

Started prep for the possible hurricane.  Putting away stuff that might fly around.

Helped with crushed concrete around the new gift shop to help with water runoff.

Plenty more to do tomorrow.

That’s it for me, Kathryn

Hurricane Irma Causing Us to Stack Up

Carole checks on the work done by staff and volunteers all day to bring in anything that can blow around. Lots of staff, volunteers and interns live here in older trailers, so we will have to double up (along with all our pets) in the more secure housing and buildings. Rants on a Ringling tiger being shot and killed after it escaped (un detected) near Atlanta and the craziness of a tiger cub being stolen and repossessed in Oklahoma. Sheesh! Time to get congress to pass the BigCatAct.com

Letter to the Management About Irma

September 7, 2017

Dear Sir/Madam:

All right – just who is this “Irma” that everyone says is coming?  Once again, no one asked my permission to bring another resident into our gated community.

Must I remind you AGAIN that I am Her Royal Lioness Nikita?  Every new application for admission must be presented to me for approval.  This has been a long-standing rule, which I must admit I have allowed to lapse.  No more.  From now on, I demand to see the application and approve it before anyone else moves in.

The rumor around the sanctuary is that this Irma is a real blowhard.  Is that really someone we want to welcome to our close-knit community?  Lord knows we already have enough trouble with some of the more cantankerous residents here (Joseph and Amanda, I’m looking right at you!)

I understand she has already been evicted from various other locations and is now headed here to Florida.

I did not approve this, and I simply won’t have it.  Tell her to go away, as she is not welcome here.

Harumph.

Sincerely,

HRL Nikita Lioness
