Big Cat Updates

Cats On The Move

• Mrs. Claws Bobcat was moved to the enclosure to the right of the backyard door across from bobcats, Bailey and Moses.
• Beacher Savannah was moved to Max and Mary Ann’s old enclosure.
• Sapphire Tiger is home from Vacation.
• Jasmine Tiger is now out in Vacation.
• Illithia Serval is home from Funcation.
• Manny Jaguar is now out in Funcation.
• Max & MaryAnn were moved to their new enclosure between Des Serval & Lovey Bobcat.
• Lovey Bobcat is temporarily locked out of the two bubbles closest to the main tour path.

Another scorcher today. We were a lean team, but an awesome one.

Many thanks to the great Sunday Red team – Mai, Deidra, Stephanie, and Candice. They took great care of our littles today.

Beyond Thanks to our small but powerful Senior Keeper Team of Jen R, Sarah, Mary, awesome upper-level interns Dylan and Fred and the awesome afternoon assist from Mazz.

The gift shop crew was awesome. Thank you, Edith, Lisa, Karma, Abdullah, and Marilyn. Great job!!

This day was a success and it was all because of your hard work and dedication to these beautiful cats!

Foster Kitten Program

Foster Kittens going home with interns at the end of the day. Did you know that Big Cat Rescue has a Domestic Kitten Foster Program? We get kittens from the Humane Society of Tampa Bay and raise them to 2 lbs. They are often bottle babies. When they are old enough they spend their days in the Kitten Cabana playing. At the end of the day, they go back to Intern Housing where they live with our amazing interns. When these adorable kittens return to the Humane Society they are very healthy and well-socialized and ready to become happy well-adjusted family members for their new FURever families.

Kristine’s Bobcat Rehab Overnight Kitten Report

MALACHITE – Malachite napped in the afternoon, then Momma Becky came to clean his cage. After she was done and had left he came out and ate some dinner, then he played up a storm. At first, he tried really hard to get something on top of his cage and pull it through, lol. He really kept at it for a while, then finally gave up and went to play.

He ran around his cages really fast, stopping to play with his blanket at times. He was full of energy! Then he played with his scratching post attacking it and knocking it over, then he really had fun with it, playing at the base of it, lol. Adorable!

When he played he played a lot in his back cage by his post and hut. He played with his stuffie a lot, biting and bunny kicking like mad. He played and played with his stuffie! He had so much fun! After he wore himself out, he settled down back there for a long nap. Later he woke up and was in his back cage attacking his stuffie, biting and kicking as fast as he could. So cute!

He played for a little while and then cuddled up on his blanket back there and went back to napping. Later he woke up and played some more with his stuffie in his back cage, for a short time. Then he got all cozy on his hut, took a bath and went back to napping. As I write this, he is awake again and at the front of his cage, cautiously batting at something in the right front corner. I think it was his stuffie, lol. It was in his water bowl, silly boy! Love him!

FLINT – Precious Flint played and played in the afternoon. He was so cute! He was playing with his stuffie, wrestling with it and madly bunny kicking it, lol. He was carrying it in his mouth and the would roll with it, lol. Then he ran around and around his triangle scratcher with the blanket over it, he ran really fast, lol. He was having so much fun!

He went inside under the blanket and then Momma Becky came in to get him for his Bemer treatment and then to clean his room. He was still under the triangle blanket and when Momma Becky lifted it to find him, it scared them both, lol. Then he went right to his carrier. When he got back, he played up a storm. He checked everything out and then ran all around the room, jumped on his post and tried to get the tape on the wall, lol, such a silly boy!

He ran around his triangle again, really playfully, he played with his stuffie and everything else in his room. He is just too adorable! He ate some of his dinner, too. After a while, he settled down for a nice nap. Later he woke up and played for a bit, I couldn’t see him unless he was right by the camera, but I heard him back there, lol. So cute!

Then it got quiet again, so he must of been napping. he napped for quite a while and then he woke up for a short time and came over by the camera where his blanket was and kneaded on it while purring very loudly. It was just too adorable for words! Then he laid down on it and went back to napping. As I write this, it’s still quiet, so I think he’s still back there napping. Love him so much!

ASH and CINDER – Ash and Cinder spent the entire afternoon in the front section. They napped separately sometimes and together other times, but never far away from one another. Ash napped in the corner by the opening to the left side and Cinder napped over in the left side by the pipe. Eventually, they both moved to behind the den, to cuddle up and take another nap. They were so cute!

Later Ash moved up on top of the den and Cinder stayed behind it. Ash napped some more and Cinder took a bath, then she got up on the hanging shelf to nap, while Ash stayed on the den. After a while, Cinder moved back down behind the den.

As the sun started to set, they woke up and went over by the Coolaroo to sit and look around for a while, then they checked things out and Ash went to his log to bite it again, lol. They wandered around for a while and stalked a squirrel that was running around. They watched it for a while and climbed the fence to try to get to it, following it as far as they could, lol.

After a while, as darkness was setting in, they disappeared into the middle section for a short while and then came back up front to wander, look around and pace the fence for a while. They saw something out there and watched it for quite a while, pacing fast at times or sitting on the Coolaroo watching.

After a while they got on the Coolaroo and wrestled for a little bit, then they started to nap there and decided to move to the left section by the pipe, where they cuddled up together for a nice long nap.

Later when they woke up, they started in playing. They wrestled by the pipe and then they played a bit in the front right side, by the log pile. They played on the hanging shelf, it was so cute, one of them would get on the shelf and hang over to bat at the other and the other would stand on their hind legs and reach up to the shelf with their front paws, lol. They played, wrestled and zoomed around for quite a while. As I write this, they are pacing and zooming around the front section. Love those two! 🙂
