ACTION ALERT! SPEAK UP FOR CIRCUS CATS!

ACTION ALERT! SPEAK UP FOR CIRCUS CATS! The Lee Regional Fair in Sanford, North Carolina will be hosting notorious big cat circus handler Vincent Von Duke and his circus act with lions and tigers called Close Encounters of the Exotic Kind for the fourth time at the fair, which starts tomorrow. Ironically, the group responsible for booking Von Duke, who has been cited for numerous USDA violations of the Animal Welfare Act going back many years, is the Sanford Lions Club! Bob Nelson, Fair Director for the Sanford Lions Club, has stated that he believes Von Duke's big cats are treated humanely. But there is NOTHING humane about forcing majestic big cats to perform unnatural, stressful behaviors like jumping through burning hoops and traveling for months in cramped transport cages. The only way to get big cats to perform circus stunts is through pain, fear, near starvation and intimidation. Circus acts are cruel, not humane. Please speak up for these voiceless cats and politely let the Sanford Lions Club know the majority of people do NOT want to see big cats inhumanely exploited in cruel circus shows. Ask Bob Nelson to cancel Von Duke's circus. Call 919-935-4077 and email weserve@sanfordlionsclub.com. Thank you!

A NEW WITNESS PROTECTION CAT IS ON HER WAY TO BIG CAT RESCUE!

Big Cat Rescuers Jamie, Kathryn, Victor, and Sharon are en route to Tampa with precious cargo. The cat was seized by a state’s government because she wasn’t getting the medical attention she desperately needs. Big Cat Rescue was chosen to keep her in “witness protection” during the state’s litigation with the owner over custody.

Here at our Windsong Memorial Hospital, she will receive the proper diagnostics and follow-up care to alleviate her obvious suffering. The cat’s condition is severe and we can’t tell you much more about the situation or her injuries for fear of revealing her identity. We just want you to know how much we appreciate the fact that your donations make it possible for us to help cats like her!! Thank you!

If you live in the U.S. please help us stop other big cats from being bred for use as photo props and then discarded into the hands of private owners. Take action at BigCatAct.com

Memes and Quote of the Day - “Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. BE KIND! Always!”

Coordinator Report – Erin Carden

Today was a great day! We were lean, but we were a machine!

Thank you BethAnn Bluder for coming in to feed and clean even though you had a few places to be today! BethAnn, Candy Couser, and Bethany Smith got the feeding done quickly to be available to help myself, Carole, and Afton to move Hoover back outside. We were a great team!

Bethany and I cleaned the outside hospital cage and did food prep. Dylan Lavigne cleaned up two empty rehab cages in an hour all by himself! Candy, Abbey, and Bethany helped him move Flint’s outside cage to a different enclosure afterward.

Abbey was all over for me today, she fed, cleaned, helped other sections, did PM supplements and gave out afternoon sicles. Denny and Pam handled the gift shop, private tours, and the afternoon general tour.

Thank you, everyone, for always working so hard, and being ready for anything!

Is #mondayfunday a thing? ‘Cause is like to make it one!

Kristine’s Bobcat Rehab Overnight Kitten Report

MALACHITE – Malachite napped most of the afternoon in his back cage. I saw his ears perk up a couple of times when Flint was playing, then he put his head back down to nap more.

After Momma Becky came in and cleaned his cages, he came out and chowed down on his dinner for a bit, then he checked out all of his things and then he played for a little while with his bird stuffie flipping it all over the place and then he wrestled with it, bunny kicking it like mad, lol. So cute!

After he was done playing with his stuffie he went to his back cage and cuddled up on his blanket to take a nice nap. After a short nap, he was back up playing up a storm with his bird stuffie. he flipped it all over and wrestled like mad with it, biting and bunny kicking it, lol. He carried it all over the place. So cute!

Then he played in his water bowl for a short time, batting at the water and watching it move. Then he went to his back cage and found his other stuffie and wrestled with it for a while. Then he went back to wrestling with his bird stuffie for a while, in his back section. He’s so cute back there, just kicking away, lol.

After a while, he fell asleep right where he was playing. Later he woke up and played with his stuffie in his back cage for a short time, then he was back to napping. As I write this, he is awake sitting in his back section looking around. He was also playing with his stuffie. He is too cute!

FLINT – Precious Flint played up a storm in the afternoon. He ran around his room and played with and in his triangle that has the blanket over it. He grabbed the whole thing and bit it, lol. He ran in and out of it, and ran around it real fast, then attacked. He played with his stuffie, wrestling with it and carrying it around.

Then as he was playing, Momma Becky came in to clean his room, so he got in his carrier and then had his Bemer treatment while she cleaned his room. When he got back, he immediately chowed down on his dinner and then started in playing like mad. He went around checking everything out and then saw his stuffie up on the scratching post and ran and grabbed it, batted it around, then got excited and ran around real fast, lol. So cute!

Then he found his hut and attacked it and pulled it around with his teeth. Then he took a break from playing for a couple of minutes and kneaded his hut while loudly purring. After he did that for a couple of minutes he grabbed his hut with his teeth and pulled it clear to the back of his room, then wrestled with it back there. He ran around playing some more with his stuffie and blankets, then as his light went out, he quieted down, so he must have cuddled up back there to take a nice nap.

He napped for quite a while, almost all night. Later he woke up and started in playing. I heard him running around back there and then he brought his stuffie up close to the camera and was attacking it, lol. Bunny kicks and all. As I write this, I heard him back there playing away, then I heard him behind and on top of the camera carrier. Yes….he just now unplugged his cam, lol. He is just too adorable for words!

ASH and CINDER – Ash and Cinder were nowhere to be found in the afternoon, they must have been napping in a cool place. In the late afternoon, I saw the hanging logs in the very back section moving and then found them both up on top of the tall platform.

They lounged and napped up there until it was almost dark and then they made their way up to the front section. They wandered around for a while, then Ash went and laid down in their spot by the pipe in the left side and Cinder paced the fence for a bit. When she was done, she made her way to where Ash was and laid down to take a bath and then cuddle up and take a nap.

Later they woke up and Cinder wandered off to the middle section, while Ash stayed there in the front left side for a bit, pouncing on something in the grass. It was so cute! Then after a bit, he laid down to nap again, but he heard Cinder and went looking for her in the middle section. A bit later they came back up front to the left side and curled up together in their spot by the pipe. So sweet!

Later just before it started getting light, they woke up and played on the hanging shelf and den. They zoomed around a bit chasing each other and then paced the fence. As I write this, they are zooming around playing again. They are so adorable!
