Spain: Gov’t to devote 2007 funds to Iberian lynx captive breeding program

Los presupuestos de la Junta de Andalucía de 2007 contemplan un total de 630.896 euros para la creación de un centro de cría de lince en cautividad en la provincia de Córdoba, si bien no se ha determinado aún cuál será su ubicación. Fuentes de la Administración autonómica informaron a Europa Press de que el proyecto se encuentra ya redactado a la espera de superar algunos trámites administrativos para el comienzo de las obras, por lo que por el momento no se sabe cuándo podrán iniciarse.

En cuanto a la ubicación, la Junta está decidiéndose entre tres enclaves diferentes de la provincia, pendientes también de la compra de una finca donde se ubicaría el centro, por lo que aún está sin definir el emplazamiento. El centro debería localizarse en un territorio muy aislado y no habitado por otros linces, a fin de no desplazar de su territorio a otros ejemplares y, sobre todo, para evitar los problemas que podrían generarse en caso de producirse un contacto entre especies cautivas y aquellas que permanecen en libertad.

Se trataría del cuarto centro de estas características existente en Andalucía. Los otros son los de Jerez y El Acebuche, ubicado en la Estación Biológica de Doñana. El tercero de ellos, también pendiente de construcción, estará instalado en Aliseda (Jaén) y tendría características similares al de Córdoba. En la actualidad, Sierra Morena alberga uno de los núcleos reproductores más importantes de lince ibérico, del que se estima que existen entre 150 y 200 ejemplares en toda España.
