Straying tiger evades trap

5 Feb 2009, 0056 hrs IST, Monotosh Chakraborty, TNN

JHARKHALI: The tiger that strayed into Jharkhali from Herobhanga on Tuesday evaded the two trap cages kept by the forest officials. It is still at large near the village.

“A 4.5 km long nylon fence has been put up to prevent the tiger from crossing over to the villages. Fresh pugmarks seen this morning indicate it is going towards Bagmari. We have placed two cages one at Vivekananda Pally and the other at Amlamethi. We hope to catch it by tomorrow. The tiger has been moving in a 7 km area very close to the villages,” said Subhendu Bandopadhyay, divisional forest officer, South 24 Parganas.
