Thanks Everyone Who Helped Ban Declawing Cats

I really want to THANK each and every one of you who wrote letters, emailed, faxed, phoned
or showed up to the meeting to ask Councilmembers for their support in a ban on declawing.
Your time and efforts made this last round of voting a success!

SANTA MONICA, CA: In a 5-1 vote, Santa Monica City Council passed an emergency motion Tuesday, September 22, 2009, to draft an ordinance that restricts the practice of amputating the toes of animals, also known as “de-clawing.”

This was achieved with your help. We could not have done this alone. Letters from the opposition were in full force along side with our letters, from those of us who actually care about cats. Any paper letter that was sent is was display and made available to the public .

This was round one, once the ordinance is written it goes back for another vote from the council members when public comments can be made. While we are hopeful that they won't…
Councilmembers could still change their minds.

So if you have the desire to send
emails that say something like "thank you for your continued support on the ban on declawing"
they can be sent to can be sent to:
city@genser.org,pam.oconnor@smgov.net,gleam.davis@smgov.net,
robert.holbrook@smgov.net,kevin@mckeown.net

The only council member that wasn't sure yet and voted no was richard@bloomlaw.net

Bobby Shriver who left early said he also would have supported the ban.bobby.shriver@smgov.net

This is very inspiring and we feel very positive about creating change in the practice of de-clawing.

Please help him win as this is great publicity for the plight of big cats and it will provide $10,000 in cash to feed the cats at Big Cat Rescue as well as a much needed vacation for Scott.  Your DAILY vote can win this for us here:
