Wuppertal – Thieves in the western German city of Wuppertal unknowingly took possession of a hungry lion on Wednesday, as they made off with an unmarked circus van, police said.
Laurens Thoen, spokesperson for the Probst Circus, said the animal had been dozing in the back of the van when it was stolen, and was by now probably looking for food and water.
“It is a dangerous matter,” Thoen said.
“From the outside it wasn’t obvious that there was a fearsome predator within,” he added.
Police said the public should look out for a cream-coloured van with a blue drivers’ cab.
