Sat, Jun. 05, 2010
Elvira, the Siberian Tiger at the Dodge City Zoo has been put to sleep. City officials say it came on the advice of veterinarians who had been treating her for the last several months.
Zoo officials say Elvira suffered from severe arthritis which also led to other medical problems. They say she was no longer responding to treatments.
Elvira was born on Halloween in 1991 at a zoo in Rochester, New York. She moved to Dodge City in May of 1994.
Zoo officials say they will search for a new tiger soon. The zoo will also be making improvements to the tiger habitat before a new tiger comes to the zoo.
