The cubs had been found by residents in the middle of a street in Ladang Panjang village, Sungai Gelam district, Muaro, Jambi regency. Officials of the Jambi branch of the Natural Conservation Agency handed the tigers to Taman Rimba Zoo for intensive treatment.

The zoo’s veterinarian Meilina Waty said Eci refused to eat, which led to the cub suffering dehydration and lowered body temperature.

“We tried to save Eci. We fed it milk. We covered Eci with towels and put a lamp near it to keep it warm,” she told The Jakarta Post.

Meanwhile, Lala’s condition has improved significantly after the rescue.

“We will try our best to keep Lala alive,” the veterinarian said. (yps/iwa)
