SAN DIEGO – A trio of Malayan tiger cubs made their first venture into the Tiger River exhibit at the San Diego Zoo on Wednesday.
The cubs have spent three months in a maternity den at the zoo with their mother, Mek, away from public view.
The cubs – Jin, Seri and Menderu – stuck close together Wednesday as they explored their large, lush habitat. A zoo spokesman said they spent two-and-a-half hours outside running, jumping and wrestling.
A zoo spokeswoman said the best chance for visitors to see the cubs is when the zoo opens in the morning. The time that the trio will spend outside in the exhibit each day will depend on how they acclimate, she said.
Two of the cubs are females – Jin, which translates to “spirit,” and Seri, which means “bright.” The lone male is Menderu, which means “roar.”
Three baby tiger cubs made their first appearance at the San Diego Zoo on Wednesday. The tigers showed off their playful side to a big crowd of admirers.
