SOUTHWOLD, Ont. — Provincial police say a Siberian tiger which killed its owner last month has been transported unharmed to an undisclosed location.

The 300-kilogram tiger fatally mauled 66-year-old Norman Buwalda on Jan. 13 at his exotic animal sanctuary in Southwold Township.

The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals expressed concern Thursday that the tiger was no longer on the property and didn’t know where it was.

The OSPCA went to the farm last week in response to a complaint about the well-being of animals on the property.

Southwold Mayor Jim McIntyre also said he didn’t know what become of the tiger, adding he was concerned for public safety.

Provincial police in Elgin County said today the tiger and two lions were safely taken away on Jan. 27 to an undisclosed location and that there are no exotic animals remaining on the property.
