He said the officials had trapped the tiger at Mawar in Handwara area of Kupwara district in an automatic cage on December 12.
The wild animal had killed several people and wounded many others besides taking away a number of cattle in the recent past.
The spokesman said the tiger had created havoc among the people in Machipora, Hanga, Darashpora, Nagnadar and adjoining villages.
The Wildlife Department had taken all possible measures to safeguard the life of the people from wild animals, he added.
The animal was later shifted to the Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre at Dachigam National Park on the city outskirts here.
