Wall Street Journal and Cornell University news…

The Wall Street Journal online today published a nice article on the pet industry’s trend towards health products. “The biggest thing in pet food at the moment is natural and organic, because it’s been that way a couple years for humans,” said Jim D’Aquila, managing director at financial advisory concern Mercanti Group, which specializes in consumer and wellness products. “They are adopting for their pets what they are adopting for themselves.”

One interesting line in the article seemed to me to take a subtle stab at the Mega-Corporate producers of pet food…”Colgate-Palmolive, which makes toothpaste and soap, also has a flourishing pet-food business.” Thanks Wall Street Journal…I enjoyed that!

And Cornell University has produced some very nice videos on cancer in pets. I’ve watched both the Pet Owner version and the Veterinarian videos and they are very good!

You’ll see a two tabs – one for Pet Owners – one for Veterinarians. You can watch both. Just an FYI – the Cornell University Veterinary School website has a wealth of information on it for pet owners. Great website!

I have heard nothing more on the rumored new shipment of melamine tainted glutens. I was told Senator Richard Durbin of Illinois had ‘insider’ information and addressed this with the FDA. However, I have not found this letter on the FDA website. Senator Durbin is one of the few politicians nationwide that is trying to help our pets.

Help Big Cat Rescue and learn the Truth about Pet Food! Nutrition is one of the most neglected areas of pet care. Modern veterinary science tells us that the average size dog (30 pounds) should have a life span of 25 years and the average size cat should have a life span of 30 years. Sadly, we lose them far earlier. Genetics, environment, and nutrition – or lack of nutrition – all plays a role in the life expectancy of your pet. Improve your pet’s diet – improve their health and extend their life span.

Pet Food meat ingredients come from two VERY different categories or classifications…Pet grade/quality ingredients (which can be diseased or sick animals or animal parts rejected for use in human food) or Human grade/quality ingredients.

Do you know which your pet is eating?

Pet foods and Treats can legally contain chemical preservatives linked to cancer and tumors.

Do you know if they are in your

pet’s food or treats?

Many pet food manufacturers import pet food ingredients outside the US – from countries with little to no government regulations or quality control.
