VANCOUVER/CKNW – A 32 year old woman is dead after being mauled to death by a siberian tiger.
It happened in the
The tiger was reportedly a pet and one of three tigers the woman’s boyfriend owned and offered photos to the public with.
The victim’s name hasn’t been released pending notification of family members.
Meanwhile, the Vancouver Humane Society says this tragic mauling was an accident waiting to happen and could have been so much worse.
Society Executive Director, Deborah Probert says the tiger’s owner, Kim Carlton moved to 100 Mile House because of restrictions placed on having such exotic pets in urban areas.
Probert says while it’s awful someone was killed,
"We’re just relieved that this didn’t happen in one of the many situations that Kim Carlton was taking this animal out to. He was taking this tiger in particular into schools and into community centres and into malls."
Probert says the provincial government needs to make a blanket policy for the entire province banning people from having such wild animals in domestic situations.
