The Dakota Zoo welcomed in three new members today at the new Jack and Joyce Schuchart Big Cat Complex.
Three tigers now call the complex home including a white tiger, orange tiger and a rare golden tabby tiger. The exhibit features a large pool, boulders for climbing, and plenty of trees.
The zoo has spent the past eight years getting this exhibit completed and hope the new cats will offer year round excitement for visitors.
“We`re trying to branch out and bring in more animals that fit into that year round thing and tigers are perfect for that. They`ll be out everyday, rain or shine, snow, they function so well with that,” says zoo director Terry Lincoln.
The snow leopard part of the new project is scheduled to open in mid-September and a primate center is expected to be the zoo`s next big project.
