Bhubaneswar, Jul 29 : In a unique decision, Nandankanan zoo authorities have decided to celebrate the birthday of three rare white tigers, with a different flavour.
As a modest effort, the Nandankanan Zoological Park here is planning to celebrate the birthday of the white tigers as an awareness programme on conservation of tiger, one of the endangered species, to catch the imagination of the visitors.
The birthday of three white tigers – Rishi, Sitesh and Prachi – would be celebrated on August 1 in the zoo premises when all the three white tigers would turn four years of age.
Nandankanan Zoological Park Director Ajit Kumar Pattnaik said as a part of the celebration a display board would be posted at the reception at the gate complex.
To generate awareness, general information on the tiger, its present status and conservation would be disseminated in the form of display boards both in Oriya and English in the enclosure area, he said.
Besides, the zoo furniture would be introduced as a part of the enclosure enrichment programme and on that day the tigers would be presented with the zoo furniture as a ”birthday gift”, he added.
The tigers would be groomed with a good bath and a special treat by the animal keepers. A specially made cake would be cut in presence of the school children and the visitors, he informed.
The birthday celebration, Mr Pattnaik said, would be followed by a special talk on tigers, delivered by Senior Research Officer L A K Singh, and the focus would be on the need to protect the tigers.
