Uh Oh! Looks Like You May Be Lost
From 1992 until 2023 Big Cat Rescue was primarily a sanctuary for wild cats, but it was always our goal to “put ourselves out of business.” By that we meant there should never have been a need for a place that rescues exotic cats from horrible situations, because we should create a better world where big cats aren’t bred for life in cages after months or years of abuse as ego props. It took 30 years of campaigning for better laws and educating the public about why it is always cruel to breed wild cats for lives of deprivation in captivity, but we did it!
On Dec. 20, 2022 the Big Cat Public Safety Act became law making private ownership of big cats illegal in the U.S. and prohibiting cub handling which was the driver behind 99% of the abuse. After that there was no longer a need to rescue big cats, for the most part, and the private trade in the smaller cats as pets is unlikely to ever become as big of a problem because it’s all about showing off. The smaller cats just aren’t as impressive (nor as cooperative) as their bigger cousins. Find out more HERE.
We paid to build our cats much larger homes in Eureka Springs at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, and we will visit them and pay for their care until they die of old age. Find out more HERE.
This enabled Big Cat Rescue to pivot fully to protecting wild cats in the wild, where they belong, through threat mitigation programs. Find out more HERE.
So, the bottom line is, the page you were looking for may not be here now that we have redirected our focus, like the “eye of the tiger” on saving all wildcats on the planet. I hope you will Join the Pride. - Carole Baskin CEO
